EYDFA TID Test Case
An Erbium-Ytterbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EYDFA) was exposed to a total ionizing dose of 30 krad(Si) using Co-60 gamma irradiation, with continuous optical output power monitoring. The EYDFA maintained a stable output power of approximately 36.7 dBm throughout the 231-hour irradiation period and the subsequent 48-hour monitoring period, with no significant optical power degradation observed.
EYDFA Test Case (SEE)
An Erbium-Ytterbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EYDFA) was evaluated under 80 MeV proton irradiation to assess its susceptibility to Single-Event Effects (SEE).
Throughout the test, no observable system-level Single-Event Upsets (SEUs) or Single-Event Functional Interrupts (SEFIs) were detected under either beam-on or beam-off conditions. Post-test verification confirmed normal optical output power and command read/write functionality, demonstrating stable operation during irradiation and preserved functionality after testing.
EYDFA Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) Test Case
An Erbium-Ytterbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EYDFA) was evaluated under thermal vacuum conditions across a temperature range of −30°C to +55°C.
During three thermal cycles, the EYDFA maintained stable optical output and normal command read/write functionality. At low temperatures, a slower optical power ramp-up was observed immediately after power-up, potentially due to the thermoelectric cooler (TEC) control loop requiring additional time to reach thermal equilibrium.
The optical output power measured 37.87 dBm before testing and 36.59 dBm after testing, with the observed variation considered within the acceptable operating range. Post-test functional verification confirmed normal operation with no functional abnormalities observed.
